Create an mandate that will make it illegal for members of congress to pass legislation that is religiously motivated

Created by J.K. on April 15, 2013

The goal of this petition is to request of the Obama Administration that the president promotes a mandate or federal bill that will render it illegal for members of government to pass legislation that is in anyway religiously motivated. This hopefully will discourage congressmen from proposing legislation that might discriminate or show favoritism to a specific (spiritual) religious perspective or interpretation. For example hypothetically under this bill if a Jewish or Muslim member of congress wished to pass a piece of legislation that would favor their religion at the expense of others like and official recognition of one of their holidays in the public sphere or a law banning the consumption of pork. The idea itself would be illegal to propose to congress as legislation.
