The desert interior of California was once a large inland lake. Climate change and shifting geological masses have dried up this interior lake contributing to the arid climate of the desert southwest. By drilling/cutting a pipeline from the California Pacific coast and allowing cool seawater to refill the Death Valley basin we would be recreating a viable habitat where there is now only desert. This could also contribute to the economy by creating jobs, and offset the localized warming trends we are seeing in the American Southwest. And, since Death Valley is below sea level, we could generate hydroelectric energy with this proposal. Large scale economic development projects with lasting, positive environmental impact should be a top priority for this administration.
