Those individuals who broadcast and report news have the potential to exerpt as much inflluence on schoolchildren as teachers yet they are not held to similar standards. Since the airwaves are public property, regulated by the FCC, by creating math standards for broadcasters we ensure a higher, more intelligent standard for our children and citizens to strive for. These standards would not impinge on free speach as they do not concern the content of broadcasting and reporting.
