Mental health is a rising concern in our country. The lack of care for these troubled individuals is contributing to the mass violence incidents and numerous smaller tragedies on a daily basis. A federally funded mental health care system is greatly needed to offer the help these individuals require and prevent future tragedies, large or small, from happening.
In addition to a mental health care system, a true solution to this problem will require the appropriate legislation to empower it. Legislation to move these mentally ill individuals from the criminal justice system where they become stuck with no treatment, to the newly created mental health system that will help them become the active members of society that they want to be.
