Create Mental Health Services Awareness for Citizens of the United States.

Created by M.G. on December 15, 2012

Many times, victims of events such as the recent shooting in Newtown, CT often include the shooter themselves. This person suffered from mental illness for which he did not seek treatment.

In the United States, there is a stigma when it comes to seeking help to cope with mental illness. For more information, this topic is further discussed in the book, Stigma and Mental Illness by Alan Tasman, MD. (http://tinyurl.com/cqjwktp)

The aim of this petition is to start a PSA campaign, much like The It Gets Better Project (http://www.itgetsbetter.org/), saying therapy is okay. The aim would be to create material with positive roll models talking about mental health. Our hope is that with this initiative we can start changing minds when it comes to mental health care in the United States.
