Family law defines abandonment as the act of deliberately leaving one's spouse without consent, notification and with no intent of returning. Hundreds of military spouses are abandon every year and they are unable to contact their service member. Military spouses are the heart of a military family and should not be disregarded when the service member is deployed or wants to live another life. Where is the support for the military spouse when he or she is left out in the cold? Often times the JAG is unwilling to help and the Command is difficult to reach or the spouse may not know the name of the unit. Many times the spouse is unsure what to do or who to contact, and cannot afford attorney. Military members have a plethora of resources, why not the spouses?
