The United States is amongst the least generous nations when it comes to statutory holidays. US Federal law does not mandate pay for time not worked such as holidays and vacations and policies vary widely from state to state.
Time off from work is essential to the mental well being of workers and can lead to happier, more efficient workers and workplaces. With this in mind the USA is far behind most other industrial nations in the number of public holidays and paid leave.
We would ask the government of the United States to increase the amount of national holidays to be inline with those other nations. We would also ask to revise current laws to require employers to guarantee time off for all national holidays and compensation for those days if required to work.
