The citizens of our country should provide financial assistance in full support of our democracy "of the people, by the people, and for the people" at the cost of approximately 0.1% of total government expenditures during a national election year. This cost is not only reasonable; but necessary to protect and promote our democracy. Public funding for candidates running for the offices of President, Senator, and Representative must be provided so we stop selling our democracy to the highest bidder.
