Create a national Carbon Tax

If a permanent shift in the global climate to warmer, drier, more erratic weather and increasing sea levels can be shown to be caused by CO2 pollution, we petition the federal government to reduce the emission of CO2 by taxing Carbon emissions and rewarding Carbon reduction with a target of 5% yearly reductions in CO2. We petition the US government to apply a fair progressive tax on existing and incremental carbon emissions and equal credits for carbon reduction and to adjust the strength of the tax to meet the CO2 target levels. This will directly reduce US CO2 emissions, set a standard for global CO2 reduction, reduce damage from climate change, raise significant revenues, encourage renewable energy adoption, and reduce hydrocarbon based pollution saving lives and reducing health care.
