The citizens of the United States should have the option of acquiring and possessing a national Citizen I.D. Card (that uses smart card technology), as an optional U.S. Citizenship document. It should be able to securely store personal information within a microchip on the individual's tax identification, social security, health care, and biometrics information. This should provide ease of use for U.S. citizens for using U.S. government services while providing them with a secured and optional form of U.S. government-issued I.D. Therefore, this will bring the U.S. into the 21st-century in regards to providing a secured electronic national identity card, without infringing on privacy and civil liberties by making it optional (requiring the individual's consent.)
