Tuition costs have become a way for big business to discriminate. If you manage an expensive degree then you're indentured to them to pay off student loans.
The APA, ADA, AMA and all the other 'A's can decide to raise their standards anytime they want effectively devaluing any degree you've earned! They've already been doing just that because they're worried more degrees will cause competition in their fields and drive down their profits. College, should be as easy as going to high school in this country.
It's shameful for a country to call for more education and then leave big interests in charge of how many get to have an education or how valuable that education is allowed to be in order to protect private profit.
