create a national Dark Sky Night, where all outdoor lighting must be turned off for 12 hours, from 8 PM until 8AM.

Created by D.W. on September 03, 2015

Light pollution has made it impossible to see the full night sky details, such as the Milky Way, in most urban and suburban environments. The impact is so large that even in many rural communities the quality of the night sky has dropped, and it is affecting many animals & our ability to perform effective ground-based astronomy.

Before too many generations grow up without ever seeing the Milky Way, the government shall enact a Dark Sky Night, requiring that all exterior lights not needed for public safety be turned off for 12 hours, from 8 PM until 8 AM, one night each year as an educational initiative for all the millions living in or near cities.
