We need a national database compiling all information related to every officer involved shooting. This database should include all relevant information regarding the shooting to include the demographics of involved police officers and civilians.
You cannot fix a problem when you do not properly track it. Social media, video clips, and audio recordings are very powerful means of communication. They can also be misleading. As an example, many people believe gun violence is at an all time high despite the fact that gun related homicides are less than half of what they were 25 years ago.
We cannot know just how bad this problem is, or if our actions to fix it are successful, if we do not properly measure and track it.
