Items like Cars, CellPhones, Computers, Bicycles and home electronics are stolen every day.
Currently, there are several separate data collections of these items, and there is no way to ensure that these are shared or even correct.
Some examples include those only accessible to Law enforcement and insurers (NCIC), those internally maintained by mfrs, some independent projects online and local police projects.
(google search: "stolen registry") add specific terms as you see fit.
If consumers could register items in a single registry, then theft reporting to law enforcement would be easier - the info would be collected in a standard form.
If the info is publicly searchable, then all parties - victim, law enforcement, insurers, consumers and resellers - would benefit.
