We need a commemorative day to celebrate comedy (and the comedians) that touch our lives, make us laugh, and provide a different perspective on the issues of the day. Comedy is an essential ingredient of a free and democratic society. Comedy can convey truth, open minds and hearts, and challenge the status quo in ways that other forms of communication don't dare. Where would we be as a society without laughter?
