December 6th, 1865 was the day that the abolition of slavery was written into the Constitution as the Thirteenth Amendment. This iconic deed, which defined our nation, deserves a yearly commemoration. Every year on December 6th, Americans should remember the struggle that was endured to terminate slavery, but also celebrate its end. Although the road to racial equality did not end there, the adoption of the Thirteenth Amendment was a consequential beacon of hope and a representation of a new America.
