When the bombs blasted during the Boston Marathon on April 15, most bystanders fled, fearing a third explosion. Yet some rushed to the scene to aid the injured and mutilated. Among them, Red Cross volunteers, off-duty police officers, firefighters and armed forces servicemen, National Guard members and emergency-trained citizens.
9/11, the Colorado shooting, the West (TX) fertilizer explosion... We need to honor the selflessness of these special citizens, and foster among the population the values that they embody, by designating a National First Responders Day !
