We ask the President and Congress to create a federal holiday honoring American families. Families and family life are the cornerstone of our society. Yet the burdens of daily life allow little precious time to honor and acknowledge this most iconic of American values.
The U.S. currently has no federal holidays between President's Day in mid-February and Memorial Day at the end of May. The Family Day holiday would be held every year on the fourth Monday of April. This would allow families in most parts of the country to get outside after a long winter and enjoy time together in the spring weather. The country of Canada currently celebrates a Family Day holiday every February. It's time the U.S. joined them in formally recognizing the value that families bring to our society.
