create a national holiday that recognizes the remarkable achievement of the Apollo 11-17 moon landings.

Created by J.S. on June 16, 2013

We propose creating a national holiday on July 20th to honor the achievement of landing men on the moon. This is probably the greatest scientific accomplishment made by the human race and we don't yet have a day to honor it.

While the primary focus would be on the Apollo Moon landings, honoring all the men and women involved in the U.S. space program from the pre-NASA days up through the present would also be an aspect of the holiday.

It is estimated that 500 million people watched the Apollo 11 landing live on television. This was an event that had the entire world coming together in one hope that the mission would be a success. Wouldn't it be nice to put aside all of our differences and just marvel in what we can accomplish when we all work together?!?
