Create national holidays for voting, consolidating other holidays that honor civic engagement

Created by R.K. on August 20, 2014

What do Jefferson, Lincoln, ML King and Cesar Chavez have in common? A desire for holidays to honor their personal legacies? Or a desire for empowerment of the American people? We should declare that the purpose of a holiday honoring any of these leaders should be to encourage participation in our democratic processes. Combine these holidays into the one or two days per year on which most elections are held and give us national holidays so that we can go to the polls and vote! Act like voting is an important thing to do and it will be.
