Create a national mental health registry to prevent deadly weapons from falling into the hands of the mentally ill.

Created by T.L. on December 22, 2012

In consideration of the tragedy that took place in Sandy Hook, one must consider and address the root cause of this tragedy. The root cause is not because of a weapon - it was because of the person holding the weapon. Rather than reduce, frustrate, or otherwise infringe upon the rights of law-abiding gun owners, we need a solution that will address the tragedy and its cause. In order to prevent this, we should consider the creation of a nationwide, confidential registry of those who are deemed by mental health professionals as being a danger to themselves or others. This registry should alert local law enforcement, who will ensure that they do not have in their possession, or access to, firearms. Once cleared by a mental health professional, the afflicted person's name may be removed.
