To Create a National Monument dedicated to the Slaves and a National Museum on Slavery. Located in West Potomac Park.

Created by D.H. on February 01, 2016

This petition is to urge the White House to champion an effort to create a monument to the millions of Americans who served as slaves before the Civil War. In addition, a Museum of Slavery will also be built alongside the monument.

The structures will exist to commemorate the sacrifices of the slaves as well as educate and enlighten the citizens of the USA, and visitors from other countries, on the topic of slavery, as it existed in the USA and how existed or exists elsewhere.

Both will be funded through a combination of an act of Congress and private donations. The design of the Monument and Museum will be chosen in the typical manner and be competitive.

The Monument and Museum will be located on the polo fields in West Potomac Park across the street from the MLK Memorial.
