I'm calling for a NATIONWIDE REFERENDUM in order to offer citizens a DIRECT VOTE Re: banning the sale of "assault-type" weapons & large-capacity magazines; vastly improving gun safety and security, and greatly improving the screening process.
We can't rely on our "representatives" to take action on these crucial measures, as they are obviously more concerned about their political survival than the sickening number of people who die, or are grievously harmed by, gun violence every year in our country. This is despite the fact that surveys show the vast majority of citizens support stricter gun laws!
Other countries have no problem going directly to the people for votes on critical issues such as this. So, are WE an actual democracy or not?
