We the undersigned of Appalachia hereby petition the government of the United States of America to create a new state of Appalachia from counties in eastern Tennessee, eastern Kentucky, western North Carolina, and southwestern Virginia.
We believe that Appalachian people, our heritage, values, and our unique cultural identity are threatened by social, political and cultural climate of contemporary America. By affording us the right to self-determination, the federal government will foster the conditions upon which a more perfect union may be formed.
