At the present time a Purple Heart is awarded to military personnel for any wound received as a result of combat with an enemy of the United States. The Purple Heart is also awarded to those who have died as a result of those wounds. There needs to be a level of recognition that transcends the Purple Heart to honor those who have given their lives in the service of our country. This medal, which would be presented to the survivors of the recipient, would become a family heirloom and a lasting tribute to those who have given their lives in the defense of our nation.
