We should, under no circumstances, diminish the term "athlete", and competitive sport.
While Professional Gamers are competitive, and require a a great deal of skill, but these things do not define an athlete, and these persons should not be treated, legally, as athletes.
So, It might be time to create a new type of work visa exclusively for pro-gamers, and other types of competitive geeks/nerds.
