Since the private sector is not creating enough jobs to enable financially struggling citizens to work and generate enough income to pay for basic necessities, it has become imperative for the Obama administration to create a new WPA (Works Progress Administration), as Franklin Delano Roosevelt did in the Great Depression, to provide jobs. The excuse that the President has offered - "these are different times" - is not acceptable. The situation now is the same as it was in the Great Depression: the private sector was not providing enough jobs then, and it is not doing so now. There is no excuse for the shameful situation that now exists: desperate people, willing to work, but unable to find work and, as the result, being unable to pay their bills.
