The 20 month civil war in Syria has left 40,000 dead, many of them civilians. Another 400,000 refugees have fled to neighboring countries. The war is a bitter stalemate. The rebels have achieved many victories but the Assad regime still has complete air superiority and has been abusing this power by bombing civilians in towns that have been recently liberated and/or are supporting the rebels. For many reasons, western powers have neglected to arm the rebels with heavier weaponry needed to combat air craft. Many of these reasons are legitimate, but a USA or UN backed No Fly Zone over all or some of Syria would give the rebels a fighting chance without possibly arming extremists, and put an end to countless civilian casualties.
