In 1959, the Japanese began construction of the Shinkansen (also known as the bullet train). Then, in 1976, the French government agreed to fund the first line of the TGV which now spans the entire country of France and has plans to add new rails to cross seven European countries within the next few years. Now, in 2013, I believe that the United States needs to show our innovative might and start competing in the race to create and maintain the world's fastest and safest continental high-speed railway using green energy. A project of this massive scale, it would create millions of new jobs for both the contruction, installation, and maintance for both the rails, engines, and passenger cars. The project would help strenghten the American economy by pouring millions into the private sector.
