Historical evidence supports that humans have been meditating for thousands of years. Meditation is part of the Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic, Daoist and Bon traditions. In the Christian and Jewish traditions, we find meditation in the form of mantras, prayers, and the repitition of scripture. On a very practical level, regular meditation cultivates and promotes patience and stress reduction. That is valuable in a distressed and overworked society. It also promotes mindfulness, which Melissa Moore PhD states is the ability to focus the mind's attention, with non-judgmental awareness. Sarah Lazar (Harvard Medical School) points to studies that show cognitive and psychological benefits. The US should be the world's leader in embracing meditation and its benefits by establishing the daily OHM.
