We ask the government to fund and develop a commission to judge a one billion dollar prize given to the first entity that can demonstrate a battery with the same energy density and weight as gasoline.
We are now at a turning point in power production. Solar cells have come down dramatically in price and are now expected to get even better at the same rate as computer chips.
Unfortunately, electricity can still not be efficiently stored and it is this fact alone that prevents technologies such as solar or wind power from gaining traction.
Even the best current batteries are expensive, dangerous and can store energy with a density almost twenty (20) times less than gasoine.
The winner retains all rights to their discoveries in order to develop practical commercial products.
