We need an open enrollment season to be enacted by Congress. There hasn't been an open enrollment period for military retirees to add survivor benefits for their families since 1999. The statutory window is (two)2 years. Many people's lives change after that window. I was married, and am planning on having children. I missed the enrollment window because I did not know there was a limit on when I could sign up. I would have been able to ensure that my wife would get a percentage of the benefits I receive from my retirement should something happen to me, but am barred by statute. I am sure I am not alone in this need. Please help Veterans and their families.
