This petition is to create a passenger rail link to State College, PA. Adding State College to the inter-city passenger rail system in Pennsylvania will allow students and faculty at Pennsylvania's largest university access to the state's two largest cities as well as New York and Washington for travel and research. The Amtrak system is a 45 minute drive across a narrow mountain gap and there is no public transit option to get there. Extending service to State College will add accessibility to a thriving tourist destination, which will support and create jobs in the area. Additionally, the Philadelphia to Harrisburg line on Amtrak is one of the most heavily used parts of the train system and has been recently upgraded, extending service to State College, will further enhance the system.
