In 1999, I was rendered disabled from a gunshot to the throat in a domestic violence incident. Because of this I could not work a normal job for several years. While fighting for disability, I became addicted to drugs. To support my addiction I began to sell drugs as well. By 2006, I was convicted of several non-violent drug offenses. By 2010, I had received my GED while incarcerated and completely overcame my drug addiction. Good people at Miami-Dade College gave me a chance to attend there school regardless of my criminal background and I excelled. I graduated MDC in 2012, and began attending Florida Atlantic University. I will have my BA in 2014.
I still have my non-violent criminal record hanging over my head at every interview. I should be able to prove I am worthy of a second chance
