Police brutality occurs because police officers believe that they can get away with it -- and, currently, it is true that most police brutality goes unpunished. The reason that most police brutality goes unpunished is that it is investigated by the police. Having the police investigate police brutality is like having your children investigate who stole cookies from the cookie jar.
To fix the problem of police brutality, we need to take the job of investigating and prosecuting police brutality out of the hands of the police, and give it to an independent organization.
We petition the government to create a “Peace Police” at the national level with the power to investigate and prosecute allegations of police brutality.
