Countries all over the world are beginning to realize the importance of rail transport and how it can ease highway and airport congestion. Meanwhile we are sitting here with an underfunded, failing, and structurally deficient program that most of us know as Amtrak. Despite this, the government has only recently increased its budget, and even then to a measly $500 million. To give you an idea on how small that is- they spend $41 billion each year on highway maintenance. Its about time we catch up to the rest of the world, and I hope we realize that soon.
