Imagine an America where a person unable to find work in Atlanta could affordably commute to Tallahassee or Charlotte in under two hours. Imagine a country where instead of flying in a jet that consumes thousands of gallons of fuel, people could have the option of going great distances using high-speed trains that run on electricity. Outside of major city centers in the northeast and west, America's rail infrastructure is ancient. High-speed rail is already a reality in smaller countries in Asia and Europe. Creating a high-speed rail grid throughout America would revolutionize the economy, create thousands of construction and maintenance jobs, and give Americans greater means to pursue work in other cities. We ask that the president create a high-speed rail plan as part of his jobs bill.
