An important issue completely absent from the recent election is the level of poverty and inequality in this country and what to do about improving it. The current poverty rate is 14.7%. Liberals and conservatives can both agree on short-term help to relieve suffering and that endless government assistance handouts are not the long-term solution.
The Poor require comprehensive help to allow them to pull themselves out of poverty. We must have serious bipartisan discussions about the real causes of poverty and the real solutions to help the poor transform themselves into the middle class.
President Obama please prioritize these efforts by appointing a "Poverty Elimination Commission” with a “Poverty Czar” who leads the efforts. Reducing poverty would improve the country for all.
