Although we already have a large number of world renowned public universities funded by individual states, and military academies, this country lacks a great centralized university system.
The cost of tuition and student loans is out of control. A free prestigious institution can be created in a two simple steps:
1. Tuition is free for the best and brightest american citizens. In exchange, they give two years of their life after college to public service in a military or non-military capacity.
2. Distinguished Faculty: We have at our disposal (on the government payroll) a large number of extraordinarily notable and qualified people who can act as professors, instructors, and lecturers (Senators, Congressmen, NASA, NIST, Military). Simply retask a portion of their workload to teaching.
