The WPA was created by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt following the Great Depression to put the unemployed directly to work. This stimulated the nation's economy, and gave Americans millions of jobs for 8 years. They built much of the great infrastructure that America sees today. Roads, bridges, public utilities, parks, airports, and many other projects.
Today we have a great need for the repair of our infrastructure in this nation that has been repeated. We have an unemployment rate nearing 10% and rising. We have a sagging economy. We have children in dilapidated schools, and bridges nearing collapse. We have two great needs in this nation that could be solved with one answer. Create a new WPA to put our citizens to work, repair our infrastructure, and revitalize our communities.
