For many years, gay men and women who wanted to be married could not marry. This legal bar (which has now been held to be unconstitutional) meant that thousands of gay men and women could not have the financial benefits of marriage, including the tax benefits.
The United States should institute a reparations program (of a modest size) to compensate gay men and women who can prove they had the equivalent of a marital relationship in the last thirty years, and who can show a financial loss because their relationship was not legally recognized as a marriage.
If you would support a reparations program, please sign this petition encouraging President Obama to investigate the viability of such a program. TD
