49,433 Vetrans are homeless in the US. The Secretary Of Defence should implement a program that helps active duty military members that will soon be civilian again phase back into regular society by helping them find a job right before getting out to have and income or/and find a place to live. The Defense Department wasted $100 milion on unused flight tickets and never bothered to collect refunds even though the ticket were refundable (Riedl, 2009). The money to fund this program can be easliy rased by cutting wasteful funding. Investing money in work and housing programs for Veterans would help end homelessness before it starts.
