Mike Rowe went before congress last year and said there were 400,000 skilled labor, transportation, and utitity job openings with no one to fill the positions. That is almost half a million vacant jobs that need to be filled. In a time when job creation and the economy are the major talking points, a program to promote these jobs and offer aid to anyone who takes up the trade would go a long way to benefit us all.
We need a media campaign to change the image of these jobs in the minds of the average American. And we need to offer incentives to those that would go into those trades like federal grants. Offer even better incentives to former soldiers to take up these trades, which would help to keep soldiers from becoming homeless.
And hire Mike Rowe to be the progams spokesman.
