We as a nation are faced with a job crisis, an aging and decrepit infrastructure, and returning veterans from a long war. The impending troop withdrawal presents an opportunity to create jobs, rebuild our infrastructure, and care for our veterans mental health. I propose a program that retrains returning soldiers to perform jobs critical to repairing bridges, power systems, and other needed positions while keeping them in a tight-knit unit. These units could travel to different parts of the country, working on federally funded repair projects. This will allow veterans to gain valuable career training, improve national security through a resilient infrastructure, while allowing them to re-integrate into a society without war alongside their fellow soldiers.
