Create a record of all of what's going on in the world for the distant future

I often think to myself about what we know of the past, such as the ancient Egyptians or the Roman empire. Sure, we know what was going on then, but our knowledge is limited. I'd like our government to create a record of everything that's going on in the world, and what has been happening. World War II will be remember definitely, but will stuff like the Haiti earthquake? Most likely not. I want the future to know exactly what was going on here, the good and the bad. I want them to know of the greatest innovators of our time, whether it be scientists, musicians, authors, etc.
