College students face increasingly high levels of loan debt, reducing their purchasing power and ability to enter the workforce for years to come. Many graduating students, particularly those pursuing advanced degrees, may be faced with hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, which the current job market would not allow them to repay. Despite this reality, tuition costs remain largely unregulated, and repayment programs continue to apply regulations that neither support affordable repayment nor enable graduates to begin building their lives. Loan forgiveness programs also do not address the needs of those who are entering low-earning fields. This petition asks that the government address the issue of student debt.
