Life in the Anthropocene and beyond has the potential to prove itself extremely challenging if fossil fuels continue to be burned at accelerating rates: mass extinctions, rising sea levels, rising global surface temperatures, ocean acidification, coral bleaching, eccetera.
In the face of such adversities I propose a carbon neutral tax that, if initiated, would gradually increase the price of dangerous, habitat deforming, fossil fuels with most of the money being returned to the public. Such a tax would would send a much stronger signal to international markets furthering the research, develop, and implementation of low-carbon and carbon-neutral energy technologies in addition to raising money that could be put forward for education, public transportation and infrastructure.
Thank You
