create a safer future for our nuclear energy plants

Created by J.P. on September 01, 2013

We would like to see nuclear reactors that are subject to 'loss-of-cooling' accidents outlawed by 2030. We would like to see a plan to replace or upgrade these plants using technologies that 'fail-safe' when cooling, or the electricity to provide it, ceases to be available. Such technologies exist. We would also like to see improvements in our nuclear reprocessing laws and our nuclear infrastructure such that it is possible to use up all or almost all the energy in nuclear fuel, so that we are not storing refined nuclear fuel that is a danger to our children. We would like to suggest the government start by looking at pebble bed reactors and CANDU. We would like to see subsidies for energy companies running fail-safe reactors, and extra taxes on companies running BWRs and PWRs
