Single-payer national health insurance is a system in which a single public or quasi-public agency organizes health financing, but delivery of care remains largely private.
The poor adoption of health insurance via the Health Insurance Marketplace is due to the expense of the private insurance plans on offer. The Health Insurance Marketplace is just a veneer for the the patchwork system of for-profit payers. Private insurers necessarily waste health dollars on overhead, underwriting, billing, sales and marketing and make huge profits driving up costs. Single-payer financing is the only way to recapture this wasted money.
This petition is for the creation of Single-payer national health insurance and for that option to be available for all in the Health Insurance Marketplace.
