Immigrants built this country and they continue to be imperative to our future. The children that are fleeing South America are escaping a horrific reality that 1 in 18 are killed as children by the violence where they are from.
A process that streamlines the ability for American familes to foster these children is the first obvious step in dealing with this humanitarian issue. Ultimately once the situation is stabilized in how the refugees are being dealt with these familes should have a further streamlined process to formally adopt the child.
All these children want is an existence that the fear of dying is not a daily reality. This idea would not solve the overall problem but it would be an important component.
